A quick intro to new followers and also to open up the conversation and find out what film people's biggest pain points are when it comes to marketing, social media, navigating audience engagement!
Hi - Im a filmmaker and Film student at Columbia University. I’m leaving the program having made 3 short films as a writer/director and 3 films as a producer. I’m really proud of these films but we have just started submitting them to film festivals and that process takes so much time! While I wait to hear back, I’m looking for alternative routes to build my brand as a filmmaker and develop an audience because I’m graduating school and I don’t yet have “industry approval”.
I’m currently getting a handful of people to sign up for my feature documentary through a basic website. My plan is to keep them updated on the production, but can I mobilise those people to help promote the film even more in some way?
I’m a new follower and didn’t realise you’re in Edinburgh! I’m living in Glasgow now but went to uni in Edinburgh. I work in social media marketing in the leisure industry by day and I’m pursuing my passion of writing about film & pop culture on the side. Would love to have a career that combines the two one day 😊
Omg hi!!! Thanks for the comment 👍 very cool about your writing! What fil a do you love? Drop your substack or writing links here so we can check it out! Hoping to do some more film networking events in Glasgow with Cinetopia who I work with so do keep your eyes peeled! 😊
That’s so cool - I love Cinetopia’s weekly roundup of events! Have been keen to get to one of the networking events but haven’t been able to get through to Edinburgh recently, so would love more in Glasgow.
I love this! I originally wanted to make a short comedy film about successful women in history, but I could never put a proper team together. Ended up repurposing my notes into a newsletter, and here we are!
That being said, I would love to figure out how to make a small comedic film. So I'm happy I found your Substack :)
